I can't remember exactly what I was doing yesterday afternoon when John called me and told me to turn on the television. There had been a shooting at a church down the road from us.
My hands were shaking as I turned on the t.v. and searched for info. This kind of thing shouldn't be happening. We live in the United States--not Afghanistan or Israel.
Scary. Scarier still when I realized that both of the girls' teachers and some other friends of ours are members of this church. I started praying, and the pray without ceasing verse has new meaning for me now.
I was later able to talk to their teachers--they and their families are fine--and they gave me updates on other friends. No one we know was affected (thank God), but others have been affected, so please continue to pray for them. For the victim(s) and their families, and for those who witnessed such a horrific scene. My heart is still so heavy this morning.

I have been praying, Mer. I'm so sorry. I know how scary and wrong it feels. You shouldn't have to have that happen to 2 churches in your life! But we know God is in control and can work it for His glory. Love to all of those affected--
Mer,
This is on my heart and mind, too--close to home as you said. Several of my good friends attend NL so I e-mailed them all to see how they're doing. Especially on the wake of the Omaha shooting (also close to home), it's very scary and disheartening.
I didn't even think about you being that close to the shooting. I don't pay enough attention to the news. How VERY scary! And that it could happen in a church. (or a mall or a school). You never know what each day may bring. This is such a reminder.
I'm glad you are safe and so are your friends.
I was shocked when I read about this in our local paper. It's unbelievable that something like this could happen. I've had the victims and their families and everyone who witnessed this in my prayers since the moment I read about it.
I just don't even know what to say. Shocking. And frightening.
This is so scary and sad....what a world we live in. It needs Jesus Christ!
