There are two things that cause my calendar to clear instantly. The first is a snow day, the second is a sick child. I'll let you guess which one has me at home today.
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE being at home. I just feel sad and helpless when one of my kids is sick. Abbey started running a temp on Sunday. It continued yesterday, and she woke up with 102 again today. She has a nasty cough too. I'm not one to run my kids to the doctor for every little thing, but I took her this morning because running a high fever for 3 days concerned me. She tested positive for Influenza B.
Ugh...the flu.
Honestly, I can't remember my kids ever having the flu. This nasty virus has knocked my sweet little girl completely out. She'll perk up a bit when the Motrin kicks in, but as soon as her fever spikes again, she's back on the couch or in my lap.
She doesn't like feeling yucky, but she's more upset about missing a playdate yesterday, missing her make-up Valentine party this morning, another play-date this afternoon, and she's beside herself about having to miss our Daisy bowling trip this afternoon. She's been looking forward to that for the last 3 weeks. So sad.
I'm keeping her happy right now with popsicles, her Dora castle, a Madeline movie, and her pals Nicki and Chocolate. She's still running fever so she'll be home with me again tomorrow. I'm praying that the rest of us stay well. We're doing lots and lots of hand washing, and taking lots of extra vitamin C!
I must go tend to my patient. Apparently she needs some applesauce. That's actually a good sign...she's hasn't had much of an appetite.

Oh No! I know just what you mean about feeling helpless. I picked up my oldest from school today with a fever. Uh Oh. Thanks for the pic of what you use. I'm going to get some popsicles!!
Poor Abbey! How terrible to not feel good AND have to miss out on so much fun!
Praying for you all. Good news is this...I had it and no one caught it from me. Two weeks later, Tabor had it and no one else has been sick so far.
Tell Abbey that Mrs. Holly is praying for her to get better soon!
Love,
holly
Oh, as cute as she is, I can tell she's not feeling just right. Poor thing. Stay well the rest of you, too! A nurse friend of mine suggests opening those windows even for a few minutes if you can to get some air exchange.
You seem like a 5 star nurse to me.
I may sound like a terrible mama, but one of my guilty pleasures is quilting or reading while my sick kids are napping. ;) You're exactly right, sometimes it takes a sick kiddo to slow us down.

Oh! I'm so sorry! My prayers are for a quick healing!
Hugs for Abby and prayers for a quick recovery and good health for the rest of the Blase family.
Sorry the flu is visiting you. I hope she recovers quickly!
I'm so sorry Abbey is sick - but you sure are doing a good job of making a sick day sound fun!
down with the flu!!!
boo!!! hiss!!!!
At least 3 different strains of 'flu going around here. Nasty stuff, all of them. Praying for a quick recovery for Abbey and that nobody else catches the bug.
Love and hugs,
Diane
Again, another story of the flu hitting - I know it's that time of year, but my gosh everyone seems to be sick. Come on spring, when we can open our doors and windows and get some fresh air in and germs out. Hope she gets well quickly and the rest of you are spared.
Awww poor thing! I think it's almost as hard on the mommies when the little ones are sick. I hope it passes quickly and that it give you some sweet time with her.
Poor things (both of you!) hope she is better soon! She is just precious!
Mer,
So sorry to hear Abbey's not feeling well--I hope she recovers soon and that the rest of your family is protected!
I just found out our church nursery will be closed for a couple weeks because so much illness is going around. I've never heard of such a thing!
