Remember not long ago when I was lamenting the cost of a loaf of bread and wanting to grind my own wheat and bake my own? Yeah, well, I still haven't tried the recipes you all sent to me, but I want to!
I cringed inside last week when I bought a loaf of my favorite Oroweat bread and the price had gone up to $3.88. For a loaf of bread. From Walmart! I think that is just crazy-expensive for bread, but since I had company coming and we'd be eating sandwiches for lunch a couple of days, I bit the bullet and bought it...because-I'm-not-a-sandwich-kind-of-girl-and-if-I'm-going-to-have-to-eat-one-I-at-least-want-the-bread-to-be-good.
Well, John and I went on a date while his parents were here. We headed downtown to one of our favorite restaurants, and as we were driving, I remembered seeing an Oroweat bakery outlet nearby. I never been in so I asked John to stop and let me run in for a minute, and he obliged. Oh my goodness! Major score!
Remember that loaf of bread I bought for 3.88?
Well, the bakery outlet had the same bread marked 2/3.00. Two loaves for less than the cost of ONE at Walmart!!! I got two, plus a loaf of the Health Nut kind (which I also love) -- all for $4.59. PLUS the cashier let me pick something off of the "free" table because it was my first visit.
I've got the extra bread in my freezer, and next time I head that direction, I'll definitely be stopping back in. I love frugal finds, and this one made my day!
Excellent. We have a bread outlet near by too and it is such a wallet saver. I also buy bread often at Big Lots. It is fresh and usually $1.78 for a kind that retails close to $4.00
ReplyDeleteThere's a Hostess/Wonder Bread thrift store in Jonesboro. I used to go there quite often but when I downsized my freezer about a year ago I didn't have room to store bread so I quit going. Now that I just got a new upright freezer I'm going to have to make a stop there soon!
ReplyDelete"They" say bread and all wheat and corn products are going to at least double in the next several months. Good gravy!
Hope you're having a great weekend, Mer. :o)
Love and hugs,
Diane
Mer,
ReplyDeleteWould you be willing to disclose the location of this trove of bargains? I do remember there being a bread outlet at Flintridge/Academy--wonder if it's still there?
oh I love a bargain too!!!
ReplyDeletecongrats on your conquest!
Hey, I just wandered over from Infarantly Creative. I had to see who the other lurker was. I've been reading your blog a little- I think we could be friends if we were about 15oo miles closer!
ReplyDeleteI had to laugh because my birthday is May 28 and my favorite candy is Hot Tamales, although right now I am on a total Bottle Cap kick. I LOVE Dr. Pepper, although it does have to take a back seat to Coke.
By the way, I have always used The NKJV or NAS Bibles because they are word-for-word translations instead of thought-for-thought.
Oh, yes, and I buy a month's worth of bread at a time from the Franz Outlet. Bread at the grocery store is robbery!
ReplyDeleteThat's a month's worth of bread at a loaf every day and a half for around $15.
way to go! that's the kind of deal I love! i too shop the "bread store."
ReplyDeleteNow, THAT is a great find! I love Oroweat bread but it's way too pricy. Once in awhile, I splurge, but it's been awhile! Lucky girl!
ReplyDeleteIt is so fun to get a bargin! Yea for you. Yum-Oroweat.
