We had a nice weekend. Very restful and super low-key, and just what we all needed around here.
These are a few things I've realized about our weekends:
1. We all love having John at home with us. My kids especially love it, and when he's around, I'm pretty much invisible to them. He's their go-to guy for everything. Which really isn't such a bad thing for me. It means I can take two-hour naps, or read, or surf the net, or whatever while their daddy plays with them for hours on end. Nice.
2. We're super protective of our Sundays, but over the last year, we've become super protective of our Saturdays too. We all feel out of sorts when our weekend is consumed with activity. Our favorite weekends are ones that find us at home with each other and two blank calendar pages. That is truly restful. So, yeah, I'm stingy with our Saturdays and Sundays.
3. Ummm...that 2-hour nap I mentioned in #1. Not really a good idea on a Sunday afternoon. Especially not good to follow it up with a cup of coffee at 9pm. Because all that rest is negated if you don't fall asleep until 1am.

Sounds like a great weekend. I snuck in a nap too while Pete was watching The Masters with the girls - for some reason they were really interested!
I need to get back to protecting our weekends too. Too frequently we are wiped out on Mondays lately. I hate that.
Next time you can't sleep, call me, I'll be up feeding a baby who won't sleep thru the night yet...gerr
I love it when The Mister is home too. Even if we aren't sepnding time "together". Sometimes I just like knowing that he is in his office studying or working. Just having him in the house is comforting.
And my kids love it too. I have had to work really hard at "play" with my kids, for some reason I am all about tasks and I find it really hard to play in their rooms without being all "this place is a pit". I seem to have also lost some imagination in the parenting/house keeper department. But THe Mister? He will play with them for hours upon hours, making up games or playing Lego's.
We also love the empty calendar weekends. This Sunday we intentionally skipped church and hung out at home all day, (and gasp!) didn't even answer the phone. It was awesome!
It's good to hear that you were able to rest.
Happy Monday!

Sounds like a purrrrfect weekend.
Great weekend! My daughter spent the night with a friend on Saturday night and it was 'weird' for me. I missed her so much. But on the other hand it was nice because hubby and I were able to go to dinner with our boys alone. It was great to catch up!
Have a great week!
I need to be more stingy with our weekends. We're always so busy. We do schedule 'Family Night' 2 Fridays a month, but we need more time.
Dad is the g0-to guy around here to on weekends. I love that! But, usually on Monday, I'm ready for my girls to need me again. Weird, huh?
Have a great week, Mer!
love weekends with my hubby too.
thanks for the reminder to protect the weekends. I think we've swung in the wrong direction again. time to pray about getting back on track.
love you and your blog, chickkie!
Thanks for giving me perspective that we're not lazy losers because we tend to keep our weekends really low key and do invest in daily nappage on Saturday and Sunday. We even try to do most of the yard/home chores during the week so that we can sloth about on the weekends.
I do think that this is much needed recharging; but hard to swim upstream against all my baseball team mom and home party business friends. Must.say.no. Not.always.easy.

I am glad you had a restful weekend.
I painted my living room, dining room, kitchen and hallway with David. Though it was hard work it was good hard work.
Then we crashed all day Sunday.
I love weekends too! I love having David home and look forward to him being here.
Love,
Julie
Isn't it great to have a wonderful husband who helps you out with the kids? That is really a blessing! You are wise to protect your weekends so closely. Those times are so special. I agree that blank calendars are the most restful things!! Mine is that way far too infrequently!!!!!
oh i love sunday afternoon naps. but i haven't had one in ages.
Oh my word, I'm famous for taking a nap and then drinking coffee. And then staying up practically all night.
The next day? Not so great.
I'm super stingy with my weekends too! I love spending time with friends more than anything but lately I've turned down a lot of stuff so Scott and I can just be at home together and rest. Life is just SOOOOOO busy and I need it to be quiet and still as often as possible.
We enjoy those empty weekend calendar pages as well. I agree with you that being stingy is so good. It is very important to us to spend time together and make memories with our boys. Glad you had a great weekend.
I hope your week is not too full and that it is relaxing.
We try to protect the weekends as well. It seems like everything calls but I try not to answer.
We're protective of our weekends too. We get a lot of grief about how protective we are of our weekdays, as well. Why do people insist on being so busy?
I'm with you - if I nap too long then I stay up half the night, and coffee at 9pm - I'd be up til daybreak!
