Question of the Week: Christmas Cards

Do you send Christmas cards?

It is one of my most favorite traditions. I've been working on my list today--collecting addresses that have changed or that I lost when my computer crashed in August. Tonight I hope to start addressing the envelopes and my goal is to get them mailed before we leave town.

I ordered 300 cards this year. We have so many friends scattered across the globe. We don't keep up with most of them regularly (doing much better though thanks to blogging and Facebook!) but we love this tradition and wouldn't dream of not sending out our annual photo and letter. Most of the friends on our list are former church members and it's so fun when we hear back from them! Our return rate is pretty good--we get almost as many in the mail as we send out! I love, love, love going to the mailbox this time of year!

So...what about you...do you send out cards too?

I do send out Christmas cards. I wish I had the time and energy to write a form letter, but I always try to write even a short note in every card. We've been putting pictures in our cards too. I love getting family photos from those I don't get to see that often.

Wow! 300 cards?! I only ordered 40. So those who receive one (i.e., YOU)should feel special! :-)

Mine are ordered but not here yet. They may be late this year. I even thought about doing New Year's cards instead.

I prefer to get the photo kind and a letter too is even better!

We send out anywhere from 100-125. This yr I tried to hand deliver as many as possible. I got about half hand delivered. The rest were put in the mail Monday so you should be getting yours any day. I save my addresses in label format so i can just print them out and update each year. Works pretty good for us but this yr I've had my cards since before Thanksgiving. Didn't do too good mailing them out. Can't wait to get yours!

We send out a family photo card every year! This year we announced on our card that we are expecting baby # 3 in April. It is fun for friends and family who don't get to see us that often to see our growing kids and or a new baby addition! We send out between 100-125. It is a lot of work to address, stamp and stuff the cards but, I love doing it and staying in touch! Even more I love getting our friends and families Christmas cards! I too love checking my mail box this time of year! Can't believe you guys send out 300 cards you guys have a ton of friends! :)

I usually send cards, but we opted not to this year. I'm still sad about it. I love getting cards from old friends and neighbors. I keep a list from year to year and I started a photo album just for the Christmas card photos. I love seeing how everyone's children are growing.

In the name of simplicity this year...I..um...am going to e-mail my Christmas cards!!! I know, I know...not the traditional pretty card in the hand route to go, but for this year, I am opting for the simple, time saving, and free route! Maybe next year I will be all geared up to go traditional again, or maybe this year will spoil me to the simplicity of e-mail???

My husband laughs at me because I literally stalk the mailman watching the mailbox this time of year!!! I love getting the Christmas cards! We have cut back on how many we send (When did stamps get to be almost 50 cents?!?!?) but we still send some. I just love them!

I do send out Christmas cards and I'm getting a little panicky because I've done nothing yet to get them ready or even have a picture ready!

I'm ashamed to admit I haven't sent Christmas cards for the last 2 or 3 years. I always LOVED sending and receiving them, but since postage got so high, I've skimped on postage. I love getting cards with pictures and/or letters! Fun!

I've been sending picture cards for the last few years, but we've never done a letter. I love sending Christmas cards and receiving them and I can't imagine not doing it, even with the blogging!

I only had 50 made this year, and I need about 20 more. I've received fewer than ever before. But there are so many new people on my list that it doesn't even bother me that much!

Oh yes! THe Christmas cards are my favorite too!
I love sending them, and I LOVE receiving them. Unfortunately my mailbox has been sadly sow this year since we moved and didn't send change of address cards out. I have noticed that it's taking a couple weeks for the cards to get here during the whole forwarding process!

Oh well! Christmas will just last into January for me!

I do... but about 10% of the amount you do! Just close friends and family... I normally make my cards too, but this year we chose to do a family photo card!

Yes!!! I love this tradition, too. I remember tearing through all my parents' cards as a kids to see everyone's pictures - ha!!

It's like getting a mini yearbook every year.

Ours are still on order (the photocards) and I still have yet to write the letter. But they'll get in the mail before next Christmas. :)

I mail cards each year. It's something that I budget into my holiday's because I think it is important to let the receiver know that they are special in our thoughts. Honestly it's not that much either. I don't buy boxed cards but instead order thru Walgreen's or Walmart. This year I bought 40 cards for only $15. Then postage was $16.80 making it a total of under $31.80. I don't think that is too bad at all. I agree that I love to receive them too. It's fun to keep up with our friends and family across the US. I also take the photos that I receive and make note of who it is on the back (if this is not already done) and place them all in a holiday album that goes on my coffee table. When friends and family come to visit they get thrilled to see their photos in our book!

BTW, the calendar on my blog is on the CM everyday display....the bigger one. My friend did it and I borrowed the idea. Thanks!

I send out cards and usually a picture, too. The pictures don't cost that much, but I blow thru colored ink in my printer like nobody's business for the letter. I've got to find a way to streamline. :) Still, it's a highlight. Giving and getting. We don't get that much in the way of snail mail anymore (except bills, of course), so this time of year is especially fun.

I love getting all the cards this time of year! We send out 100 cards each year and allow for them in our Christmas budget. I also got the idea of putting them in an album from a friend. Love looking at it each year! Can't wait to see your pic and read John's letter!

Wow... 300 that is a lot. I so love your Christmas letters, Mer, and look forward to them each and every year. I send out a combination of Christmas cards and e-mail cards. Mostly snail mail though. I, too, think this is the best time of the year to enjoy receiving mail. I have a handful of friends that get started around Thanksgiving.

Yes--although we had to send less this year, b/c of finances.

Hope you got yours!
Praying for you, as you travel.

Hey Mer :) Ordinarily we send out Christmas cards ~ this year will be the first time in well over 15 years that we haven't sent out cards. I just haven't had time to even think about Christmas cards this year! Maybe we'll do a New Years letter and send it out in January....

Love you friend! Looking forward to finding your card and letter in my mail box ~ I'm with you; going to the mailbox this time of year rocks! :)

Blessings,
Trish

We definitely send out Christmas cards. But, not nearly 300! More like 100. :) I love to receive cards, so feel it only fair to send them too.

I will be sending out cards this year, not as many as I usually do tho'. We used to do picture cards every year. It seems like I haven't been able to get it together the last couple of years to do that.

I ALMOST became the Christmas Card Grinch this year but thanks to you and others...they have been sent!!

I hope I have a return rate that's good this year b/c we DO NOT live in the same place that we did last year (or the three before that)...we didn't send out "we've moved" cards either soooo here's to the 4 I've already received and hopes that more will come :0)!

I love the tradition of sending out Christmas cards and it is one of my favorite things to get at this time. But 300?!? I just about fell over! You go, girl...that is some serious dedication!

We send cards every year -- always with a family update letter. I know some people don't like those types of letters, but I love them. I wish we received more of them, because it just keeps you in the loop on what's going on in people's lives.

So instead of sending out Christmas cards, we just keep having babies and sending out birth announcements. It's too overwhelming for me to send out any sort of mass mailing twice a year. So maybe we'll be back on track for sending Christmas cards next year.

Unless....

I kid. I kid.

I sent cards every year. I LOVE receiving them - I am like a little kid and can not wait for the mail to get here. Then I can not wait to hang them on the wall. My faves are the ones with pictures!

Wow- 300 is a very impressive number- and a big job but I am sure that everyone you send them to enjoys that they receive one. I would in heaven if we received 300 in the mail. How fun!!

One thing we do after Christmas is take the cards we receive and put them in a basket. Then we choose one family a week and pray for them. Then after the week is over I send the family a note.
