...specifically this kind of candy...
she might decide she doesn't like it all that much...
and she might decide to spit it out...
IN the drawer where mom keeps her jewelry (I know!)...
and mom might decide to wear this beautiful necklace (that she won from a giveaway on Boomama's blog eons ago)...
and mom might not notice the dime-sized chunk of hard candy stuck to the necklace until something feels oddly sticky on her neck...
and not wanting to ruin the precious stones and beads, mom will likely break a nail trying to scrape hard, sticky candy off of her beautiful necklace...
but mom won't be able to tell that it's all off because the candy is the same color as the bead it's stuck to...
and so mom will put it back on and her neck will feel all sticky again...
and mom will angrily call her children into the room and ask what kind of children dispose of used candy in mom's jewelry drawer...
and the one with the gap-toothed smile will say, "Sorry, mom"...
and the mom will be overwhelmed with love for the freckle-faced, gap-toothed girl in that moment that her frustration will melt (just like the candy on her neck) and she'll decide to wear the sticky necklace for the rest of the day...
and when her hair gets tangled in the stickiness she'll smile because she knows that life is short...and so very, VERY sweet.

Not like apple jolly ranchers?!?!!! Unthinkable.
Hey, you could just run the bead under hot water, yes?
I think I'm a little melty, too. What a sweetie.
What a cutie! Only a Mom would see the sweetness in that scenario! It's a great follow-up to your post..the small things. Just a small thing that you probably will remember every time you wear the necklace. :)
Cute. And frustrating!
that is a much sweeter reaction than i would have had.
Well, somebody must have had her quiet time that morning! :) And it IS a beautiful necklace!
Ugh! and Aww!
:)
Hahahahaha!
So sweet! I love that it sounds like "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie."
Thanks for the reminder about keeping things in perspective.
That is so funny!! :)
Sounds like something I would have done as a kid. That is a funny story, Meredith! And sweet, too.
Rosye
You should sooo rename your blog to "The Sweet Life at 7000 Feet", haha!!!! :)
Extending grace IS the sweetest gift! Good job on seeing the bright side of things.
Oh no! :)
Love the story of the day. I've got a kid who sticks used candy back in the drawer, though thankfully not my jewelry drawer. Life is sweet, even when we're sticky.
So funny and so very very sweet, at the same time!! Great post :)
How "sweet" is that? I love it.
Aw shucks, Mer, I don't know whether to laugh or to cry.
Time is short and sweet, indeed.
Way to hold it together, sweet heart. I might have come unglued.
I need to learn from you. I might not have handled it as well as you. Love the way you wrote it too...if you gave a pig a pancake it MAY be just as sticky sweet.;)
Mer, I just love you (and that sweet gap-toothed girl too) - you have reminded me that we all need a little perspective sometimes. Gotta remember this next time I'm tempted to yell at my sweet little one over something that just doesn't matter all that much.
Made me laugh - wish I would/could respond to my own lovlies in the same way more often! :-)
