When I realized that I was going to get to make a list of 10 things for this post I got excited thinking about all the possibilities. Christmas is such a fun time of year and is full of so many great traditions and things I love.
I was still undecided about what kind of list to post until a little earlier this evening. John was getting some stuff out of his work bag and he handed me Chris Tomlin's Glory in the Highest cd--a gift from his boss. (Thank you, DP! You keep me supplied with the best tunes!) I loaded it onto Macie (my laptop) and have been listening and loving it! One reason I love it is that it has several of my favorite Christmas songs on it.
As hard as it it to choose my favorite Christmas songs, I'm going to try. Keep in mind this list changes from year to year, but at this moment, these are 10 of My Favorite Christmas Songs--5 Traditional and 5 Non-Traditional
1. Hark the Herald Angels Sing
2. The First Noel
3. Come Thou Long Expected Jesus
4. O Come All Ye Faithful
5. God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen
6. Hope is Born Again (Jim Brickman and Point of Grace)
7. Come and Worship (Bebo Norman)
8. Invocation (by the worship team at my church)
9. Let There Be Light (Point of Grace)
10. Welcome to Our World (Chris Rice)
You didn't ask for my least favorites, but I'm telling you anyway. I ABSOLUTELY cannot stand the Christmas Shoes song. I also detest the Hippo song. If you have no idea what songs I'm talking about, consider yourself fortunate.
What are some of your Christmas favorites???

I don't remember if I have ever commented. So if I haven't, "Hello." :~) Anyway, I can't stand the Christmas shoes song either! I have never heard the hippo song, but I will consider myself fortunate.
I like lists too. I might just do one and link back. Thanks for sharing your life with strangers!
Merry Christmas!
i have no idea what those songs are so i guess i'm fortunate. i love christmas music. it's the one time of year i will listen to cds.
I REALLY don't like "Christmas Shoes"--really, really really.
OK, I really enjoy "Mary, Did You Know" (love it) and "Strange Way to Save the World" as newer non-traditional songs. I also love Silent Night, Joy to the World, and White Christmas!
Loved your list!
I'm with you on the Christmas Shoes song.
I had to chuckle at the "Christmas Shoes" comment, because you know how I feel about that song!!!
Great list :)
I've never heard of the hippo song, but it may now be my life's mission to make sure my girls NEVER hear it as it involves a hippo. :)
I have never even heard of either of those two unfavorites.
Great list!
Great list-I want to get the Bebo Norman Christmas album. His voice is so soothing!
Working on my list now.
A big UGH to "I want a Hippopotamus For Christmas"! UGS
I love "Silent Night" and "O Holy Night". My fave secular songs are "Blue Christmas" and "I'll Be Home For Christmas". And do you know I have YET to listen to Christmas music? What is wrong with me????
I'm with you, there is nothing remotely positive about the Christmas Shoes song. Nothing like making you think about death when everyone is trying to be joyful. And the hippo song is blech, too. Truthfully, I've never liked The Little Drummer boy, either. It's too "dark" sounding or something.
I too like Hark the Harold Angels Sing and Joy to the World. Two of my other favorites are This is Christmas by Luther Vandross and So This is Christmas by John Lennon.
My favorite Christmas song is 'Go Tell it on the Mountain' Why is that never on the Christmas cds?
I love your list- very good taste. I do LOVE Mary did you know, it is one of my favs!!
Got your Christmas Card in the mail today- LOVE IT!!!
Merry Christmas- Great Season for a Good Reason!!
OH, thank you for admitting you don't like the Christmas Shoes song. ME EITHER. Seriously! :)
Absolutely love, love, love Welcome to Our World - the lyrics and music are so beautiful.
Last year on Black Friday I went shopping with this lady I met through a small group who convinced me to buy the Christmas Shoes movie!! She kept raving about how great it was so I got my family together like this is going to be great... LOL So I've got it if you want to borrow it :)
My favorite song this year- I can't figure out the name or singer! (I descrided it on my List)Grr. I like that one I think it's Colorado Christmas? Maybe because I came from California to Colorado and relate to it.

I'm extremely sorry I was impatient with my computer and pressed the button SEVERAL times!
I am in love with the song "How Many Kings" and I don't even know who wrote it, but it is inspired!
I'm so sad to see that everyone hates the "Christmas Shoes" song.... okay not really. I can't find the scan button on the radio fast enough when I hear that one! Uh...
I do really love "Welcome to Our World" by Chris Rice, though. So beautiful!
I just added my list of books to read for next year. I'd love to hear your recommendations!
Thanks Meredith for this idea. I haven't commented in a while....but I enjoy all your posts. Most of your traditional choices of songs are my top 5, too!!
Thanks for the idea!!
Jen
PS...Glad you found your planning notebook.
I don't like Manheim Steamroller. Is that what it's called? It's weirdo to me. But I love Chris Tomlin's new one (I've been listening to it constantly for 2 months now!) and Diana Krall's Christmas. Both are really good!
Thanks for the inspiration... this is the first time I have "linked" & the first time I have done the 10 0n the 10th! I probably got too "wordy" but I blog like I talk... Now I'm going to go read the other links - I didn't want to be influenced before I wrote mine...
I can't just pick some songs...however I found out recently that I really like Straight No Chaser (from Indiana University) They have done wonderful traditional Christmas songs as well as their own songs.
Meredith...thought I would let you know that it is not still snowing! YEAH. It actually stopped sometime yesterday (Wednesday afternoon) however it was so cold they didn't want children to freeze at the bus stop or on the way to school SO thus a lot of places still closed today. (I didn't know how to respond any other way to your question on my blog)
Fun list, Mer. I also love Welcome to Our World. I didn't even know Bebo had a Christmas CD, so I'm lisening to the sampler right now on Amazon. Nice!
My favorite traditional song is O Holy Night. I also really like In the Bleak Midwinter.
Can.not.handle.the.shoe.song. UGH.
My favorite Christmas song ever is "O Come Emmanuel." LOVE.IT. Gives me chills every time.
Ditto on The Christmas Shoes!
Good choices! I love "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day," the traditional one and the one by Casting Crowns.
And I get to see Chris Tomlin and Louie Giglio's Christmas tour next Friday! I'm so excited. :)
I don't think I've ever heard the shoes song. Guess that's a good thing!
Every month this slips up on me~I need to put it on my calendar so I can participate!
I looove Christmas music. However, my chilren's choice of the Chipmunks Christmas is about to wear me out. LOL!
SHoes is right up there with Butterfly Kisses for me....if I hear them I have to IMMEDIATELY turn the station or I might have to hurl.
So I guess what I'm saying is...I TOTALLY get it.
My favorite song of all is O Holy NIght.
