I was hoping for strawberry but there are some in my family who aren't fans of strawberry ice cream. Unbelievable.
I asked my Twitter friends for suggestions and Holly chimed in with peach. Her recipe looks fabulous but this recipe for plain vanilla won out last night.
It's not so boring when topped with chocolate syrup and strawberries. Or just berries for the sole chocolate hater in our family. (Me).
See that bowl in the photo above? John and I chose Poppies on Blue by Lenox as our everyday china pattern twenty years ago. We still use it daily. We also got this ice cream maker as a wedding gift. Still works great but is showing some wear and tear.
Hmmmm...I think they liked the ice cream, don't you?
Jack-the-fat-beagle didn't get any ice cream. This is his sad, pouty face.
Lame attempt at a self-portrait. Yesterday was a make-up free day. My apologies to you.
This sneaky boy took my camera and deleted all the pictures of himself. Grrrrr. And then posed like this when he saw me try to snap another one.
We ended our evening with a little trampoline lovin'.
A little dancin'.
(Grrr...the beagle tore the screen on our door on Sunday!)

I, too, have Poppies on Blue. We're down to our last remaining 5 bowls from the original 12. Might be time for a change.
We also have a lot of ice left over, along with some leftover home made vanilla ice cream. YUM! I for one think strawberry sounds delicious. I might have to try that next time.
Looks like the perfect summer treat!!!! :)
Aw, you guys always know how to make anything fun! :) Always LOVE your pics and stories.
We have Glories on Gray! (or is it Grey?) We are down to 1 bowl! That's what we get for moving all over creation.
Yum! Do you have the recipe for the kind that tastes like a Wendy's Frosty? Oh my goodness.
Can we be in your family? That looked amazing!!
You're totally fun mom. :)
Mer! Why did you blog about ice cream and I just now read about it...Now the pregnant woman is craving ice cream!!! It looks DELIGHTFUL!!!
We made ice cream too, & had strawberries, chocolate, caramel, blueberries (freshly picked), & peaches for "adornment" along with spray-on whipped cream! I've used the same recipe for years, never fails: 1 can each of evaporated milk & sweetened condensed milk, 1 Tbl. vanilla, & 1 c. sugar, mixed together. Pour into ice cream maker container & fill to line with WHOLE milk. Stir & start up the ice cream maker.
Sounds like you are having a wonderful summer! I don't think I've ever commented before but I sure enjoy reading your blog. You have a beautiful family. I was wondering where that favorite hike of yours is in Colorado. Sorry you didn't get to go on it with your family. It looks beautiful. I'd like to go on it sometime. I live in Wyoming so not too far away.
Mona--that hike is The Crags near Divide, CO. Google it. It's gorgeous...and not too hard for kids. Most of the hike is flat and through wooded areas but at the very end you gain elevation and it opens up to panoramic views. It's stunning!
Gonna go make that Ice cream RIGHT NOW!
I haven't made any yet this summer. scandalous.
I have also spent the majority of this summer make-up less and its been wonderful...you look beautiful.
Wow, I'm wishing I could sample your homemade ice cream! Yum! You are one fun Mom! I think that the summer isn't summer without ice cream! Plus, with all the fresh fruit and veggies that the summer brings its the perfect time to add in some fun treats!

P.S. Our ice cream maker was a wedding present, too. One of my favorite ones. You know, I think I might start giving those as wedding gifts...Oh wait. YOU CAN'T FIND THEM IN STORES ANYMORE!!!
